Seminar on Scaling Social Innovations in Europe

Substantial investment has been made in social innovation across Europe leading to the development of many models with potential to address social, health and environmental challenges. Even models which have been demonstrated to be effective face significant barriers gaining traction and influence within complex, contested systems such as public services.

Genio is hosting this seminar which will discuss recently completed research and practical examples of how social innovations can scale across complex systems in Europe. The seminar will hear from leaders who are championing the scaling of social innovations at an EU and national level. The presentations will be grounded in the opportunities and challenges of scaling and will focus on the reality of how successful scaling takes place in practice. The seminar will draw on the expertise of senior EU and national leaders and will feature the key lessons from a report on a €45m programme in Ireland, the Service Reform Fund which involved the scaling of innovative, citizen-centred models of practice across complex social and health systems, using a combination of public and philanthropic funding. This programme was studied by a research team over a five-year period and new insights on how scaling actually takes place will be shared.
